ISSUE 01: LEARNING IN PUBLIC

THE INAUGURAL ISSUE OF DOUBLE SPACE WILL OBSESS OVER THE IDEA OF LEARNING IN PUBLIC. IN KEEPING WITH THE MAGAZINE'S OVERARCHING THEME, WE ARE CONCERNED WITH INSTANCES OF TRIAL AND ERROR AND HOW THE PRIVACY OF ONE'S ARTISTIC PROCESS CAN BE MADE PUBLIC THROUGH PUBLICATION.* WE ARE LOOKING FOR WORK THAT EXPLORES THE DIFFERENT WAYS WE ENCODE INFORMATION (MIMICRY? MEMORIZATION?), HOW OUR COMMUNITIES INFLUENCE OUR RELATIONSHIP TO ART AND THE SELF, AND WHETHER PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT OR BREEDS GREATER UNCERTAINTY.

DOUBLE SPACE IS A PUBLICATION FOUNDED ON THE IDEA THAT THROUGH REVEALING THE REVISIONS RESPONSIBLE FOR A FINAL WORK, A READER CAN BETTER UNDERSTAND THE FULLNESS OF IT. WHETHER YOUR SUBMISSION IS A FRAGMENT TURNED POEM, OR A PHOTOGRAPH DECONSTRUCTED INTO AN ABSTRACTED COLLAGE, SHARING YOUR ARTISTIC THOUGHT PROCESS WILL NOT ONLY TEACH US, BUT MIGHT JUST INSPIRE A LESSON YOU NEED TO LEARN (OR UNLEARN) TOO.

WE ALL HAVE DISTINCT POINTS OF VIEW, MADE MORE COLORFUL BY THE SETTINGS IN WHICH WE LEARN AND HOW WE ALLOW OURSELVES TO RECEIVE INFORMATION. THIS ISSUE IS ABOUT TRANSPARENCY, ABOUT OPENNESS TO CHANGE, AND ABOUT REMAINING CONFIDENT EVEN WHEN YOU MIGHT NOT KNOW IT ALL.
